The only CD that was recorded in the studio; also the only one with only string instruments. As Adriaan said: “I also use a strings idiom for blowing. Blowing is angular, but I’m looking for fluidity. “In the Mineral Cycle, four minerals are once again made into music by musicians who, in Adriaan’s words: ‘with their souls can express the atmosphere.’

Performers: Ronald Hoogeveen (violin), Masha Iakovleva (violin), Francien Schatborn (viola), Godfried Hoogeveen (cello).

This second CD makes Adriaan together with his best students, who together form the Iona saxophone quartet from 1991-2006. With Iona, Adriaan also starts the Minerals cycle, in which he wanted to give voice to various rocks. To this end he left the modern idiom of the first CD ‘Job’. With cellist Godfried Hoogeveen Adriaan managed to enter into a dialogue that led to the duets. Recorded in the Church in Kortenhoef.

Performers: Iona saxophone quartet, Godfried Hoogeveen

On this third CD Adriaan works together with the Iona Saxophone Quartet, named after that ‘holy’ island off the Scottish west coast. This time he writes quartets around four minerals.
Adriaan also has a click with the Senegalese percussionist Pape Seck, as can be heard in their joint improvisation. Adriaan experiences Pape’s African energy as inspiring.

Performers: Iona Saxophone Quartet & Pape Seck (percussion).

For the intercultural CD ‘Experience’ Adriaan composed pure impressions, musical meditations from his deepest being. He also brought classical, European-trained musicians in touch with the intuitive master drummers from Senegal.

Performers: Ronald Hoogeveen (violin), Adriaan Valk (alto saxophone), Godfried Hoogeveen (cello), Pape Seck and Mousse Pathé M’Baye (percussion).

The very first CD by Adriaan Valk is inspired by his collaboration with Henk van Ulsen. With him, Adriaan made the performance ‘Job op Schokland’ (1992). Music fragments from this can be heard on ‘Job’. It was also Van Ulsen who urged Adriaan to choose soprano saxophone because of the penetrating sound. Furthermore, the CD contains duets and other compositions, which originated from improvisations.

Performers: Adriaan Valk (soprano saxophone), Brabants Saxophone Quartet (Perspective and Five Paintings), Johan Kloosterhuis and Vincent Bergervoet (saxophones duets).
